Every year in April, the Roadburn Festival draws thousands of attendees to the small town of Tilburg in the south of the Netherlands. Over the years, it became an underground music event with a next to legendary reputation. We talked to artistic director Walter Hoeijmakers about his vision for the festival, and about the consequences of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine when organising an event like this. Hoeijmakers lets us peek at some of his favourites of this year’s edition and talks about the legacy of occult rockers The Devil’s Blood.

Combine metal, heavy rock and hardcore and will perform twice at the Roadburn Festival 2023: Cave In.

Alljährlich im April lockt das Roadburn Festival Tausende von Besucher*innen nach Tilburg im Süden der Niederlande. Im Laufe der Jahre wurde es zu einem Underground-Musikereignis mit einem fast schon legendären Ruf. Wir sprachen mit dem künstlerischen Leiter Walter Hoeijmakers über seine Vision für das Festival, die Folgen der Pandemie und des Krieges in der Ukraine für solche Events und über einige Bands, auf die er sich besonders freut.

Sie liefern technisch versierten Death Metal, gnadenlos brutal und mit hoher Präzision: Ende des Monats veröffentlicht die Band Castrator das neue Album „Defiled in Oblivion“. Mit ihrer für manche provokativen feministischen Haltung kommen die vier Frauen der in New York basierten Gruppe nicht überall gut an und haben jüngst sogar Morddrohungen erhalten.
